The number of pharmacists working in GP practices in England through the additional roles reimbursement scheme (ARRS) increased slightly in September, according to the latest official data.
Figures from NHS England’s quarterly primary care workforce report revealed 7,198 pharmacists were employed through ARRS compared with 7,123 in June this year, when the number fell from 7,446 in March.
The number of pharmacy technicians employed through ARRS also increased, going from 2,874 in June this year to 2,942 in September.
In April this year, NHSE said funding for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians employed through ARRS will increase for 2025-26, with primary care networks able to claim £66,972 per pharmacist, a 1.7 per cent increase on £65,838 which came into force from October last year.
The rate increased further in outer London to £74,392 and £77,545 for inner London. NHSE made £43,352 available for pharmacy technicians, rising to £49,967 in outer London and £52,172 for inner London.
